Micro Cottages and Tiny Houses
Cottages under 1,000 square feet are what I am calling Micro Cottages and Tiny Houses, as mentioned in the New Yorker article by Alec Wilkinson: "Let's Get Small: The Rise of the Tiny-House Movement". These plans work for second homes and vacation getaways. In many cases, these plans would work as starter homes that could be expanded over time as circumstances and budgets allow. Michael Kimmelman's New York Times article "Imagining Housing for Today" describes new possibilities for Single Room Occupancy developments -- our micro cottage plans could be suburban versions of this housing type.
