Alexander Maurer is the founder and director of Marken Projects Inc., a Vancouver (Canada) based sustainable development and green building consulting firm (www.markenprojects.com). Alex holds a B. A. in Business Administration from the University of Vienna and is a LEED® Accredited Professional. Marken Projects is introducing innovative Green Technology and Building Practices from Austria and Germany to North America.

The Marken Design team is led by architect Silvia Steurer, who is a graduate of the Architectural Institute at the University of Innsbruck, Austria. Silvia has worked with award-winning architects in Austria and has already brought her expertise in Green European Architecture and Passive Design to several projects in North America.

The Marken LEED Home aims for a LEED Platinum Standard and to meet the German Passive House Standard, which would enable it to maintain a comfortable temperature in winter and summer without active heating and cooling (these standards depend on execution and location). Construction options include Insulated Concrete Forms (Basement), Structural Insulated Panels (Walls and/or Basement) and Advanced Panelized Framing for a highly energy-efficient building, and to reduce material waste and minimize construction time.
