This house plan was inspired by the requirements of an emerging high energy performance standard in residential construction known as “Passive House.” This home is super insulated and is designed to significantly reduce the amount of thermal bridging that occurs in most new homes built today. Modern in its appearance and approach to energy efficiency, this home design represents the next generation of green design. The entry level floor plan hosts two bedrooms divided by an open common room. Large sliders exit out onto a patio. The floor plan is ideal for lots with good southern exposure. The ideal orientation of this house is to face the front of the house towards the south to maximize the benefits of passive solar heat gains. This home has two small loft spaces at either end above each bedroom. One of the lofts is small and would be ideal for storage or mechanical space. The other loft would work well as a home office, or guest sleeping quarters. A Passive House is a very well-insulated, virtually air-tight building that is primarily heated by passive solar gain and by internal gains from people, electrical equipment, etc. Energy losses are minimized. Any remaining heat demand is provided by an extremely small source. Avoidance of heat gain through shading and window orientation also helps to limit any cooling load, which is similarly minimized. An energy recovery ventilator provides a constant, balanced fresh air supply. The result is an impressive system that not only saves up to 90% of space heating costs, but also provides a uniquely terrific indoor air quality.

  • Floor Plan(s): Detailed plans showing room dimensions, wall partitions, windows, etc. as well as the location of electrical outlets and switches.
  • Exterior Elevations: A blueprint picture of all four sides showing exterior materials and measurements.
  • Interior Elevations: Detailed drawings of kitchen cabinet elevations and other elements as required.
  • Overhead Roof Plan(s): A view of the home from above showing roof pitch, peaks, valleys, and other details.
  • Cross Section(s): A vertical cutaway view of the house from roof to foundation showing details of framing, construction, flooring and roofing.
  • Electrical Plan(s): In general, each house plan set includes an electrical plan which will show the locations of lights, receptacles, switches, etc. Note: Most Green Living plans have an electrical plan, however some do not. Please contact us to verify. Window shading details: External window shading devices are an effective method for reducing heat gains through windows during Summer. In fact, external shading devices can reduce heat gains by up to 80% if sized and built properly. With this in mind, the founders of Green Living, formerly Free Green, created this page to assist home builders in constructing effective window shading devices. The information we provide includes a zoning map of the United States, zoning charts for proper sizing of shading devices and a variety of shading device styles and materials to suite different tastes and different home designs.

It depends on where you're building. Our plans contain enough information for a professional builder to construct your home, but your local government may require additional information before permitting. We strongly advise that you talk with your builder before you get started. If you are building for yourself, we recommend visiting your local building department to start your diligence.
