This plan was built and is one of our featured Building Stories. Building A Modern Ranch House
The Long House plan by architect Nicholas Lee celebrates easy
indoor-outdoor living. It's inspired by the modern ranch house designs
of regional modern architect William Wurster. The layout is
straightforward: rooms line up like cars on a train, from the spacious
great room/kitchen at one end, past the office, bathroom, bedroom, and
laundry to the master suite at the other end. Each room opens to the
covered gallery running the length of the house. This gallery is wide
enough for sitting and outdoor dining, and doubles as the entrance porch
beside the kitchen. See also Plan 508-2, with an indoor-outdoor lanai
instead of the long porch. View more Ranch style floor plans

“ Design should be accessible to everyone. It's not only how something is designed, but how it's delivered -- i. e. the process -- that's important. I'm excited to be part of Houseplans' growing collection of architects and designers who are making high quality professional home design affordable and available to more people through ready-made plans. ” Nicholas Lee, AIA is an architect. He designed our exclusive Plans 508-1 and 508-2, both of which have been constructed. A graduate of the University of Oregon architecture program, Nick is also an artist, lighting designer, and trombone player.
