Here's a sampling:

Best Living/Dining Space/Professional category
Design Statement for project shown above by Alberto Marcos AMPS Architecture & Design | UK and Madrid | Sacha House:  A former drawing studio in Madrid was turned into a residence for an architect, a children's furniture editor, and their three little girls.

Chosen by: Guest judge and New York Magazine design editor Wendy Goodman, who said the project "looks like a house for a young family and I love that. It's open and easy, and the architecture and interiors work together in an elegant, modern way."

Best Kitchen/Amateur category
By Maya Ivanir | Los Angeles, CA, USA | Kitchen Remodel

Design Statement: "The kitchen is the center of our home and our family life. When the Realtor showed us what was then a two-unit fixer-upper, the first thing I imagined was the dining table. The rest of the house came together based on that."

Chosen by: John and Juli Baker: "The tile work in this kitchen is really impressive—it becomes more of a textured wall than just a backsplash. We also like the repurposed island with drawers; it was a nice solution to have some additional closed space available in an open kitchen."

Best Bath Space/Professional category
By Etelamaki Architecture | Brooklyn, NY | South Brooklyn Townhouse Bathroom

Design Statement: "Located on the top floor of a wood-frame townhouse in South Park Slope, Brooklyn, this master bathroom is connected to the adjacent master bedroom by an oversize doorway with a steel and glass sliding door that, when fully open, blurs the boundaries between the two rooms and creates an interconnected space. The fixtures are placed around a nonfunctional brick chimney and “hearth” focal point. The toilet is contained in its own private compartment."

Chosen by: Remodelista editor in chief Julie Carlson: "I love the mix of materials in this project: the original brick wall, the modern tub, the DIY Lindsey Adelman brass chandelier, the strip of wood used as a mount for the tub faucetry. It's a modern functional space, but with plenty of character."

Best Bedroom Space/Professional category
By DeForest Architects | Lakewood, WA | Lakewood Midcentury Modern

Design Statement: "New doors and windows and a simplified palette lend the master bedroom a calm, unfussy elegance."

Chosen by: Remodelista editor in chief Julie Carlson: "I love how light and airy this bedroom is and the way it opens to the outdoors. The wood ceiling keeps the space from feeling too cold and adds a note of rusticity."

Best Outdoor Living Space
By Tatiana Barhar/Carlos Zubieta | Venice, CA | Casa de Familia

Design Statement: "I love soft plants and a layered look," said Barhar. "Our house is so architectural, and I wanted to make sure whatever we planted was more organic-feeling. I love throwing California poppies and chamomile seeds in with the wild bunch grass." So much of the family's life spills outdoors—cooking, dining, sitting around the fire pit, playing bocce ball, gardening in the raised planter boxes—the expanded home feels much larger than its 1,750 square feet.

Chosen By: Guest judge Judy Kameon, who said about the project: "Casa de Familia looks super fun! Lots of great ways for everyone to engage and enjoy the outdoors."

Best Garden Shed or Outbuilding category
Kantelberg + Co | Mulmur Township, Ontario, Canada | Mulmur Outdoor Lounge

Design Statement: To create a three-season entertainment room in the Canadian countryside. Must be screened to protect from bugs and roofed to protect from the elements. Loungy open-air seating with cooking facilities, fireplace, and storage.

Chosen By: Guest judge and America's handyman Bob Vila, who said: "The use of oversized timbers is well done, and the summer beam is a nice touch. I find the overall palette of natural colors very pleasing."
