The Rancho Mirage is one of six gorgeous little 400-square-foot houses in the California Collection created by The Homestead Partners. Each house has a full kitchen and bathroom, private bedroom with space for at least a queen-size bed, living/dining/kitchen that opens to an outdoor dining patio or terrace, and plenty of storage. Big enough to have a friend over. Just make sure you're in love with them first. There's no time for high design when you're building tanks to save the world from tyranny. Maybe that's why World War II killed off most of the streamline product aesthetic of the 1930s. But not all of it. In Palm Springs during the 1940s, Albert Frey turned streamline into brilliant desert houses for the rich. The style never mutated into the vernacular, so it still looks like a rich person's house no matter how small you make it. Ours is just right for one or two, rich or not, and a perfect example of the type, minus, of course, the Giacometti you wish you had for the patio. Interior Features 493 square feet Open living/dining room and full kitchen, with sliding doors opening to raised side and front patios and pool Two optional plans Open kitchen with raised eating counter peninsula Kitchen behind low built-in entertainment center; separate dining table Full bathroom Space for compact washer/dryer Bedroom sized for a king or queen bed, with built-in storage and closet, and sliding door to raised side patio Entry door opening to raised side patio Exterior Features 713 square feet Raised open-air front patio with adjacent pool Raised open-air side patio at entry Total Footprint 1,206 square feet

FAQs

Are designs on Houseplans ready to submit to my building department for permitting?

It depends on where you're building. Our plans contain enough information for a professional builder to construct your home, but your local government may require additional information before permitting. We strongly advise that you talk with your builder before you get started. If you are building for yourself, we recommend visiting your local building department to start your diligence. Read more here.

Can I make changes to a plan?

Absolutely! Our modification service allows you to customize almost anything - whether it's adding an extra garage bay, adjusting square footage, changing the roof pitch, or more, the plan modification service is a great value and can be completed quickly. Additionally, if you purchase an electronic plan set (PDF or CAD), you may have the option to make changes locally. CAD files offer the most flexibility for custom edits. Just let us know what you're thinking, and we’ll provide an estimate and timeframe to get started. Learn more here.
