It's almost the time of year for sweaters, boots, and crunchy leaves (not to mention orange-hued lattes!). While a good house plan will work in any season, there's just something about these new home plans that feels autumnal.
As fall approaches, evenings can get a bit chilly. Plan 70-1467 is prepared with a screened porch in back, with easy access from the dining room. The open layout of the main gathering areas creates a relaxed vibe that's perfect for inviting over friends to decorate pumpkins and drink fresh cider. Lockers in the mudroom make it easy for kids to stash backpacks and coats.
Plan 70-1460 includes both a deck and a sunroom in back, so you have an open place for sunny days and a more-protected space for gazing outside when the rain falls. Just 40 feet wide, the plan works well for a narrow lot. The open layout creates excellent flow between the great room, dining room, and kitchen.
Love the sunroom idea? Plan 23-2651 also features one of these bright rooms, this one in front (look to the left of the welcoming front porch). It connects to both the living room and the foyer and invites you to enjoy the light without getting exposed to wind or insects.
This chic modern farmhouse features cool vertical siding, a balcony in front, and tons of curb appeal. The great room flows out to a covered porch so you can enjoy a crisp evening before heading inside to warm up by the fireplace. The mudroom area on the way in from the garage holds a bench, a closet, and the walk-in pantry, so it's easy to unload groceries and take off muddy boots when coming home.
If a fireplace is on the top of your wishlist, check out this elegant home. Plan 124-1094 showcases a two-sided fireplace in the middle of the home, shedding warmth to both the vaulted great room and the dining room on the other side. The bedroom suite opens out to the impressive wraparound deck. If you need more room, finish the walkout basement.
Catch cool breezes on those hot days of early fall from the extra-large front porch of plan 437-92 before heading around to the back to fire up the grill on the back porch. A bonus room upstairs gives school-age kids a versatile place to practice an instrument or invite over friends for a sleepover.
Plan 1069-2 also encourages outdoor relaxation. A two-sided fireplace gives your guests a focal point inside (in the living room) and out (on the back patio). A full bathroom on the way in from the garage makes it easy for sweaty teenage sports players to clean up after practice, or gives you a place to rinse a pet's muddy paws after a walk.
