The Jack and Jill bathroom is a popular developer-derived term and refers to a bathroom connecting two bedrooms. The best shared bathrooms combine efficiency and privacy -- the water closet is usually enclosed, while the vanity or vanities are part of the hallway connecting the two bedrooms. Here are some examples.

Plan 51-458 puts the vanities in the more public pass-through.

In Plan 17-2133 the vanity pass-through is offset between Bedrooms 3 and 4.
